Teaching Style and methodology

Barbara is a nurturing, goal oriented, organized teacher. Patient and kind she establishes life -long relationships with her students and their families.

Foundation is most important. From the very beginning her students learn to be organized by keeping all of their flute material together. Each week their assignment is clearly written down and usually includes scales, a rhythm exercise, etude, solo piece and duet. This method fosters great study habits that students carry into their academic subjects as well. Emphasized as well are correct breath control, fingerings, dynamics and rhythm. Master classes help to encourage daily practicing as her students perform every other month in a workshop.
